Why is NO Genealogy or Family
Tree Software Listed???? Basically, we dabbled
with many different Genealogy and Family Tree software programs in the
early years of our research ... we played with versions of PAF and
Family Tree Maker and even created "stacks" on old Mac technology (this
was back before the www and internet ... when you only had usenet groups
you subscribed to -- back before 1990!!!!). We got so frustrated
with the limitations of all of these programs that we abandoned using
this type software for many years. We stored all of our
information into Microsoft Word files that we created for each family
branch and then used "search" functions to locate anything we forgot.
If we needed to share information, we just copied and pasted the
information into a file or e-mail or snail-mail letter to send along.
What, "no GEDCOMS?" you ask in horror or
amazement! Our answer, is "You got it!". We don't believe in
genealogy as in just creating a chart full of dates and names ... we
really value "filling out" the details of the person and the details of
the people/families being researched.
Though, since we recognize that others are
more comfortable with GEDCOMS and software t hat creates Pedigree Charts
etc... we are currently trialing the newest
Family Tree Maker 2005 (click on the icon to learn more about this #1
selling genealogy software)! Let's see what 15 years of software
development has brought to Genealogy and Family History! We'll
report back on our experience (and share it) in early 2005! To see
what we thought, click here, for our report. |
